Blog HW 4/2

Research Question: Does fashion help people construct an identity?

Two sources that have helped me answer my question is the book Fashion, Culture, and Identity by Fred Davis and the website Marie Claire.

Davis, Fred. "Do Clothes Speak? What Makes Them Fashion?" Fashion, Culture, and Identity. Chicago: University of Chicago, 1992. 1-18. Print.

Santos, Rich. "What Fashion Really Means to Men." Marie Claire. N.p., 21 Feb. 2011. Web. 09 Apr. 2013. <http://www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/men/fashion-and-identity>.

The digital age and internet are changing the concept of plagiarism traumatically because more and more people are starting to think it is okay. You would think people would make sure and know how to cite their sources. It is just so easy to click copy and paste and forgetting to even acknowledge what source the material came from. They are also changing to concept of plagiarism because there are tools ad apps to where you can edit something and easily thinking its your work and no remembering that you got the idea and formatting from someone else. Writing papers are always a tough one to spot out unless you have a handy computer to look up sentences in the paper or you can spot out words that the writer usually doesn't use.

-My research question is 'Does fashion help people construct an identity?'
-I do believe that fashion helps people characterize who they are. The clothes they decide to buy show what kind of person they are or what they are into. For Example) Emo people tend to dress in very dark colors such as black because that is what they like or are into.
-I would provide my presentation but I need to add a couple of things before it is complete.

Blog HW 4-11 Prezi

Two platforms that I could use for my presentation would probably be Prezi and Google sites. I have used them both. I feel that Prezi I will be able to put more creativity and style into my project. There are more things you can do with Prezi than a Google Site. Prezi is more of a fancy PowerPoint. They have so many different templates to choose from according to your project. Google sites on the other hand are very simple to me. You cant really add your own style and if you do it will take forever just to change the color of the side bar. I will say that Google Sites is good for just putting of your information on the template and present. Its just that simple. I've used both of these sources for science based classes and they worked perfectly fine. For my final poster, as of now, I will be using Prezi. A homemade video might be an appealing way to present my research to my classmates but I doubt I will be doing that. Maybe, a short video.

Blog HW 3/14

I choose to use the Proquest Research Library. I haven't used that database before, I always stick to Galileo. The Proquest database was a little confusing. I really didn't like it, only because it wasn't straight to the point like Galileo. Proquest, sometimes the information that you are looking for doesn't come up in one search. You definitely have to use key searches, I think. Like stated before it wasn't that helpful for me because with Galileo you can find books, articles, and websites in a second unlike Proquest you have do a couple of searching techniques. The searching technique that I use the most is quotations. I feel that it helps the most because it searches exactly what I want. I did use my research topic 'Fashion around the world' for the search. I used quotations and it really didn't help on Proquest. I did not find any new information that I could use for my research.

3/5 BlogPost

Twitter: http://www.divasinc.co.za/2013/03/fashion-week-fever/#.UTSCQCNEmas.twitter
Newsvine: http://leejaywalker.newsvine.com/_news/2011/05/28/6738562-japanese-fashion-buzzing-with-spirit-and-energy-in-tokyo
Reddit:  http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/fashion-week-in-dubai

The tools that I choose to use were Twitter, Newsvine, and Reddit. I have never used Newsvine or Reddit to do any searching, these sources were pretty good to use. Yes, these tools were useful for finding information on my topic. I searched fashion and of course on a social media website such as Twitter there was a lot of information and links I could have chosen from. Surprisingly, I thought that Newsvine would not have anything on my topic but they I did found an article on the Japanese fashion. Most of the articles or blogs that I did find were about the previous fashion week that was held in different countries such as Paris and Dubai. Reddit and Newsvine would probably be more useful for me if I needed some research or another type of source to look at but Twitter would most-likely be used for my interest. My purpose for using social media is for entertainment. I mostly use it when I'm bored or looking for someone. The social media that I use all the time is Instagram! I love it, I like to look at pictures that people post. :)

http://blogs.worldbank.org/youthink/what-makes-person-good-we-asked-teens-around-world

This article is titled What makes a person good? We asked teens from around the world. This article wants to know what is there to consider whether someone is a good person, what are the qualities. This article surveys children and teens around the world to see what they consider a 'good girl/boy' and a 'bad girl/boy'. Girls that were surveyed between the ages of 12-17 from Bhutan say that a 'good girl' is "a very reliable daughter; she can take care of the house and at the same time behave outside as well."I think the author of this article is stating an opinion. I feel as though it is just a question and people want to know the answer to so the author gets different opinions to support his question. I'm not too sure if this article had any logical fallacies.
